On Tuesday 16 July, the government approved the funding for the supply of electric passenger trains and equipment for their maintenance, as well as for training of personnel. The government also assessed the impact of this procurement on the general state budget. The funding will be provided also for the development of a train repair centre.

On July 9 and 10, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš met with high-ranking U.S. officials in Washington and discussed Latvia-United States bilateral relations, U.S. support for Latvia's security, as well as transatlantic cooperation and international security, the strengthening of the financial sector’s supervision and investment opportunities, acknowledging that the United States is Latvia's strategic partner and a close ally.

Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš will leave for a working visit to the United States from 8 to 15 July. The Prime Minister will meet with representatives of the US presidential administration and Congress, will have discussions with entrepreneurs, representatives of think-tanks and give interviews to the mass media within the framework of the visit. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with representatives of the Latvian diaspora in New York and Washington.

Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš and Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and issues regarding the European Union (EU) and security policy during their meeting of 27 June.

On Thursday 20 June, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Ministers of Lithuania, Estonia and Poland and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker signed, in the presence of the European Commission's Vice-President for Energy Maroš Šefčovič, a political Roadmap implementing the synchronisation of the Baltic States' electricity networks with the Continental European Network.

On Thursday 13 June, the Members of the Parliament supported in the third reading the amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing. The changes were needed to ensure consistency between the laws of Latvia and the legal norms of the European Union, as well as to address the shortcomings identified in the Moneyval 2018 report.
